No more being caught in endless traffic jams or being in the dark about how long it will take you to drive to work or to the airport. With sweetTRAFFIC, a new enhanced wireless service from Chicago-based mobile solution provider ATSONIC, these hassles can be a thing of the past. The company has partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to provide the service to anyone with a JAVA-enabled mobile device with a color screen and Internet connection, such as PocketPC and SmartPhones, among others devices now commonly available. Slated to be in commercial release in the Chicago area in April 2003, ATSONIC sweetTRAFFIC utilizes the most up-to-the-minute traffic and travel information from the IDOT database and makes that information available to subscribers at the low cost of $1.99 per month, or $19.90 per year. It is currently in preview release in the Chicago metro area, with over 100 critical traffic points in the city and suburbs being monitored. Unlike TV traffic updates where commuters are limited to the information they can obtain from their TV sets only before leaving home, ATSONIC sweetTRAFFIC allows commuters to constantly get live traffic and travel time updates in their vehicles via a hands-free mobile phone or PDA set-up. And, unlike radio updates in the car that are usually only updated every 15 minutes, sweetTRAFFIC provides traffic reports of accidents, delays, construction, weather information and travel times on multiple metropolitan routes via the commuters mobile device on a real-time basis, with constant downloads of new information. Neither the driver nor the passenger ever has to even touch the phone or PDA once they activate the service at the start of their commute.
ATSONIC sweetTRAFFIC is a breakthrough in personal convenience and road safety. It makes available to millions of commuters and travelers the most accurate data on traffic situations and road conditions in real-time, directly on the screen of their wireless mobile device. Updates are provided from the most critical traffic zones such as expressways, intersections, downtowns, airports, business districts, and recreational areas in major metropolitan area and the suburbs.
Testimonials:
David Zavattero, Intelligent Transportation System Program Manager, IDOT
"We are pleased to be working with ATSONIC to implement this groundbreaking service and to make real-time traffic information available to consumers and business via sweetTRAFFIC through IDOT and the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee Gateway system. Such a service can go a long way toward making commuting safer and more convenient here in Illinois, and indeed, throughout the country. In addition to providing up-to-the minute, real-time travel information, the service can also be used by local and state administrations as an efficient tool for traffic crisis management and road safety enforcement."
